Get Started with Salesforce: It’s Easy and FREE

by Charles Baines, certified Salesforce administrator & Ed Ellis, certified Salesforce administrator and certified Salesforce Essentials advisor

Are you a small-business owner eager to use Salesforce, but prefer dipping your foot in shallow waters instead of jumping into the deep end?

The perfect solution: Salesforce Essentials. This Salesforce edition is designed with the small-business owner in mind. With Essentials, you’re not overwhelmed with unnecessary features that needlessly cost you money.

Trial run

Essentials is the only SF edition that allows a FREE 14-day trial to test-drive the platform. This trial offers the perfect opportunity for small-business owners to decide whether it’s a good fit.

In our accompanying video, we introduce Essentials and discuss how to get the most from your FREE 14-day trial.

As you’ll see in our instructional video, you start simply by clicking a link that takes you to the affiliate Salesforce Essentials page. Once there, you fill out the short form with your name, valid email address, general info about you and your business and click “Next.” That’s all there is to it! You now have access to Salesforce Essentials and its vast set of features.

Meet your business needs
Your trial starts with a newly generated Salesforce Essentials homepage. Set up your organization and customize your experience to meet business needs, such as:

• Add employees to the system
• Set up sales process
• Add custom fields to capture custom data
• Import any current data from legacy systems or spreadsheets

Salesforce Essentials is designed to provide a walkthrough and a community of users where you can go for support. This takes some time and effort, especially if you’re not tech-savvy or unfamiliar with Salesforce.

DIY or go pro?

A key Salesforce strength is its ability to be customized to fit your business needs. The flipside is you need to customize it to reach its full potential.

Salesforce won’t offer any help directly to customize your new organizational platform. However, software will direct you to a wealth of tools, online help and the Salesforce community. Essentially, Salesforce Essentials is a DIY project.

The choice is yours:

• DIY all the way
• DIY some and hire out the rest
• Hire out all of it

Consider a basement renovation in terms of the DIY vs. go-pro spectrum:

• Demolition, breaking out walls, busting up the tile—DIY.
• Framing? Never done that before. But with guidance, I’m going DIY. (I get to buy new tools, so that’s nice.) I save money, but the tradeoff is I must find time to do the work, figure out exactly how to do the work, and wonder whether I’m doing it the best and right way. All in all, I’ll be spending much more time vs. hiring a professional.
• Staining the concrete floors? Installing sheetrock, electrical work and plumbing? Not worth it to figure out myself, so I’m hiring a pro.

Reach goals faster

With Salesforce Essentials, you can do it all yourself. It will only cost time, but perhaps more hours than you’re ready to invest.

Development Consulting Partners can help. We are confident our expertise will get you to your goals faster.

We can offer some basic direction to get you started, or we can perform an initial customization to get your platform up-and-running. Development Consulting Partners can even accomplish all the setup and provide continual support.
